Local residents can access these new courses and events in early 2016.

Local people will be able to attend courses to learn practical skills and knowledge, such as how to improve their confidence, sleep hygiene, how to overcome problems and how mindfulness can improve their wellbeing.  There will also be a variety of hobby and interest courses available, such as arts and crafts, music, drama and gentle exercise classes.

The Big Lottery Fund has awarded Wellbeing Enterprises £403,160 of funding to deliver over 400 courses to 5,000 Knowsley and St Helens residents.  The Fund supports the aspirations of people who want to make life better for their communities across the UK. They are responsible for giving out 40% of the money raised by the National Lottery for good causes and invest over £650 million a year in projects big and small in health, education, environment and charitable purposes.

Mark Swift, Chief Executive Officer of Wellbeing Enterprises CIC said, “I am delighted that the Big Lottery Fund has funded us to expand our work across Knowsley and St Helens.  We’re looking forward to supporting thousands of people to improve their own, and other people’s, health and wellbeing.”

Geoffrey Appleton, Chair of St Helens CCG said, “It is fantastic for the borough of St Helens to receive this investment from the Big Lottery Fund.  Wellbeing Enterprises is ambitious to develop their innovative offer that can be prescribed by Clinicians as an alternative to medication.  I look forward to them working with the CCG and Clinicians to benefit the residents and patients across St Helens.”

Philip Thomas, Commissioning Director of Knowsley CCG said, “I am delighted to see Wellbeing Enterprises secure this investment to benefit the people of Knowsley.  There is real synergy between this work and our plans and strategy as a CCG, with a common focus on partnership working, working with people through non-medical interventions and focusing on the wider determinants of health and wellbeing.”

Lyn Cole, Deputy Director England at the Big Lottery Fund, said, “We are delighted to be able to fund Wellbeing Enterprises to enable local residents across Knowsley and St Helens to take part in the courses on offer whilst improving their mental health and reducing their loneliness and isolation.”
