Merseyside Social Enterprise selected for Prestigious European ‘Reimagining Community Health’ Prize

A trailblazing healthcare social enterprise, Wellbeing Enterprises, has been selected as one of the winners of the Europe wide Reimagining Community Health Challenge led by Ashoka and the Johnson & Johnson Foundation. Wellbeing Enterprises was one of eight recipients of the challenge prize who were selected by a distinguished panel of judges as the very best health innovations in Europe. They were up against stiff competition from more than 130 applicants across Europe, who were gradually whittled down to the final 15 who went before an interview panel to determine the worthy winners.

Wellbeing Enterprises was selected as a winner for its pioneering work in the field of social prescribing, which links patients and the public to non-medical sources of support in the community as a way of responding to practical, social and emotional needs. In particular the expansion of these models to support children and young people through its Inspire Programme which has been running in Halton for seven years and has now expanded into neighbouring boroughs.

Mark Swift, Founder and CEO at Wellbeing Enterprises is understandably “thrilled” by the news. “I’m so delighted that the work of my team has been recognised as an outstanding health innovation that is improving health and wellbeing outcomes for children and young people in Halton and further afield. The support we will receive from Ashoka and the Johnson and Johnson Foundation will help us to raise the profile of the Inspire Programme and reach many more communities regionally, nationally and internationally”.

Each of the Reimaging Community Health Challenge winners will receive a cash reward, pro bono specialist support and will help develop a network of community health innovators across Europe. They will also have the opportunity to form a long-term strategic partnership with the Johnson & Johnson Foundation. The goal of the challenge is to identify system innovators, help them grow their impact and build a community that creates systemic change across Europe.
